Mohamed Salah: Humble Beginning to Global Stardom
Mohamed Salah started playing for a local team named Al Mokawloon when he was 14 years old. A scout came to spot a child in the same club, but he was distracted by the 14-year-old boy, Salah. The manager understood his potential and moved him to the senior team when he was only 15 years old. Because of his age, he was unable to grow enough muscle, so he was given special treatment at the club.
Career Start
Salah spent around four years in Al Mokawloon before he was given the opportunity to play in the senior team. In the 2010-11 season, Salah was earning plentiful playtime on the pitch. But he was struggling to find the net. His first-ever professional career goal came in 2010, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Because of a riot, the rest of the Egyptian Premier League was canceled.
Basel
Swiss giants Basel had been looking at Salah for some time, and they finally made the decision to buy Salah. He was bought into the club as a replacement for Shaqiri and made his debut soon after that. He scored his first goal after only one week. Basel was defeated in the Europa League semi-finals, but they were able to win the Super League.
In the second season, Salah started finding the nets, and he was quite comfortable in the club. But he was a disappointment for the club as he scored only 21 goals in 95 games.
Chelsea
In the 2013-14 season, Chelsea was confident enough to sign Salah from Basel. He came in the January transfer window. But Salah was not given enough time to play in the blue shirt. He appeared in only a couple of games where he was unable to show his potential, and this is the reason he was sent to Fiorentina for a loan.
Fiorentina (Loan)
Salah joined Fiorentina in 2015. He scored his first Seria A goal against Sassuolo, and he gave an assist also. Because of his performance, Fiorentina wanted Salah on a permanent deal. But Salah refused, and instead of that, he joined Roma on another loan spell.
Roma
In the 2015-16 season, Salah spent the whole season in Roma, where he started to wear number 11. In the whole season, Salah was able to score 15 goals in a total of 42 appearances. Salah won Roma’s Player of the Season award. In the next season, Roma bought Salah and tried to make him a permanent player. He was able to score 19 goals in all competitions. But Roma was not happy with his performance.
Liverpool
In 2017, Liverpool spent a large amount to bring Salah and gave him the number 11 jersey. Salah started to show his potential from the beginning of the season, and he was awarded Premier League Player of the Season in his first month at Liverpool. In the first year, Liverpool was able to reach the final of the Champions League but failed to win. He won the Golden Boot in the Premier League.
In the second season at Liverpool, Salah was brilliant, and he was at the peak of his career. He won a couple of individual trophies and the second Golden Boot in the Premier League. Liverpool won the Champions League trophy by beating Tottenham Hotspur, and they won the Premier League as well.
After that, Liverpool failed to show any improvement in their football as Van Dijk was out for one season. This year Liverpool was again trying to regain their position, but they are currently in the sixth position. And they are also out of the Champions League as Real Madrid defeated them by 6-2 on aggregate.
Final Words
Mohamed is an example and inspiration for young footballers of Africa and Egypt that a young boy who came from the local street can reach the top with dedication and skills. Salah has already written his name in Liverpool and football history.
Individually he has done so many things, but when it comes to taking his country to the next level. He is on the way to doing that. Let’s hope, Salah can do the same for his country.
Thank You.
