Sri Lanka has made it through the finals to play against the Boys In The Blues. But it was not at all an easy feat to undertake after an edge-of-the-seat match against Pakistan.
Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by two wickets on Thursday and booked its spot in the finals. After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first and set a score of 252 for 7 in 42 overs.
It was a fairly moderate target to chase as the pitch was marred with rain. However, Sri Lanka also maintained a good momentum, thanks to Kusal Mendis. But it was Charlith Asalanka’s thunderous 49 that helped the Sri Lankan team pull through the match.
Electing to bat first, Pakistan was misjudging the situation of the pitch, and pretty soon, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman and the skipper Babar Azam, just when things were looking set for the Pakistani team.
One thing led to another, and soon enough, the Sri Lanka team won the match by two runs to make it to the finals.
Prep For The Final Leg
Sri Lanka had a great run at the Asia Cup, and there is no doubt about it. However, the team did not hold up well against the boys in blue.
Now, if Sri Lanka does get a chance to win the cup, this would be a landslide moment in the history of the Sri Lankan cricket team because this would be the first time that the team will lift the cup.
With so much at stake, we doubt that the team will not take a chance against India. And would stick to the format that produced results. But since Charlith Asalanka came through in the semifinals, there is a chance that he has moved up the order for a better shot.
