Alcaraz has been destiny’s child, as the sports critics opine. Ever since Carlos Alcarz’s breakthrough in the 2022 US Open, where he hauled a Grand Slam Title.
He is lauded as a young fireball who is destined to achieve great things. And Sunday’s win proved just that, where Carlos won by defeating Djokovic. If Djokovic had won this final, then this would have been his fifth consecutive win.
Here’s What Djokovic Is Saying About Alcaraz…
In a true sportsman spirit, Djokovic praised highly of the new champion. According to him, Alcaraz has “certain elements from Roger, Rafa, and myself (Djokovic).” This was a huge compliment for the 20-year-old athlete. Roger, Rafa, and Djokovic have been lauded by most tennis fans as the golden trio.
Therefore, this was a huge win for the young player.
Djokovic further added, “he’s got some nice sliding backhands that have got some similarities with my backhands. Yeah, two-handed backhands, defence, being able to adapt. I think that has been my personal strength for many years. He has it, too. I haven’t played a player like him ever, to be honest. Roger and Rafa obviously have their own strengths and weaknesses. Also, Carlos is very complete player. Amazing adapting capabilities that I think are a key for longevity and for a successful career on all.”
However, not everyone shares Djokovic’s opinion. Roger Federer said that even though Alcaraz is a talented player, he should not be subjected to such comments as, “It’s a lot to live up to,” which can put a mental toll on the young athlete.
Therefore, opinions do differ, but both the champions have agreed that Carlos Alcaraz is the future of tennis and will remain for a long time to come.
