October 5th, 2023, was a bittersweet day for the USA’s Judo Team. One of the most prominent Judo athletes in the USA made it to the finals of the Junior World Championship for Judo. The former bronze medalist rewrote history as he secured a spot in the finals.
This gave hope to millions of Americans as this broke the drought spell of approximately thirty years in the Junior World championship.
But this was not a feat that he was able to achieve all by himself. In fact, no success can be achieved if you do not share it. Secondly, it does not mean anything if you do not enjoy it.
The Journey Matters In The End.
Jack Yonezuka is built differently. Yonezuka made it to the final but lost the second and final match. This accredited him to the second spot in the championship.
Jack was happy to even be there, while other athletes weren’t happy with this outcome. He greatly appreciated being part of history and gave a wholesome statement to a judo daily.
According to Yonezuka, ‘It felt amazing. Last year, I won a bronze medal, but it was a different feeling being in the finals.”
The happiness and exhilaration that Jack felt was quite apparent on his face. In the interview, he said, “Like as you saw on the mat, I like broke down and started crying. I was so happy….As you said, it is not the result I wanted but I’m still super proud of myself. Vice Junior world champion now so proud of myself “
Such an earnest reaction from such a young athlete is something that is pleasantly surprising.
Even though Jack somehow failed to accomplish whatever he set out to achieve. He was still happy that he got a shot at creating. It does not matter that he fell shot, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.
