As per ESPN’s report by Mark Kreigel, Gervonta Davis is currently pulling strings to rematch him and Isaac Cruz next.
The duo’s first bout took place back in the year 2021 at the 135 and for the WBA Lightweight title. After an electrifying match that lasted for 12 rounds, Davis came out on top by a UD.
Following an impressive win against Ryan Garcia, fans and critics thought it was time they would see Davis take on the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko, Devin Haney, and Stevenson. Therefore, the news of a rematch between Davis and Cruz came as a disappointment.
The Internet’s View:
After the news was broken by Michael Benson of talkSPORT, fans quickly took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their discontentment. In fact, several fans thought that this was the Tank ‘going backwards.’ While others blatantly pointed out that Davis is just scared to face Shakur.
The internet tirade continued for a while, where fans were just expressing their displeasure with the whole rematch situation. One user refrained from expletives and expressed his technical opinion, highlighting how the match is not actually feasible for either of the boxers.
@Ameen_HGA posted, “No one wants to see this rematch man. They went the distance last time but Tank is going to beat him easier than he did the first time. This is just not going to be an entertaining fight.”.
Another user named @The7xSuspension said, “Man I thought after ryan surely tank would gain a confidence boost and start taking better fights. We’re going backwards again? Is he gonna rematch ryan next ? Come on bro. Get the belts.”
All these comments from fans are enough to show the nature of the hype around the match. However, there is a small group of people who want the fight to happen.
They believe that it would be a perfect rematch as two existing rivals will butt heads all over again. Keep following our page for more such sports-related content.
