Michael Jordan shared some of the finest speeches in Hall Of Fame speech back in 2009. His speech was so iconic that it was popularly lauded as one of the finest Hall Of Fame acceptance speeches. Quotes like, “Limits, like fear, is often just an illusion” made his acceptance speech one of the most famous of all time. However, people tend to overlook some of the problematic aspects of the speech.
The speech was one of the most iconic speeches of all time. However, things seemed not so okay, as Jerry Krause managed to decode the speech and take it down piece by piece. And this revealed a weirdly disrespectful aspect of it. The part that Krause is referring to pertains to the late Dean Smith.
Berating Or Banter?
While giving his HoF speech, Jordan did not miss a beat of talking about all the important figures he met while journeying to the top. One of these people was the North Carolina Head coach, Dean Smith. Smith played a huge role in structuring Jordan’s career. In fact, the duo even managed to win the NCAA championship in 1982.
Still, Jordan went on to call out his former coach. According to Krause, this was a low blow. This is, however, not a new thing. In fact, the famous feud between Kraus and Jordan was so influential that it ended Bull’s stint with Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and Scottie Pippen. According to Krause, it would have been fine if Jordan would have called him out instead. But bearing his college head coach was just unfathomable.
In an interview, Krause shared, “I sat there. I was a little, shall we say, surprised. But again, that’s Michael. I was surprised that he’d done it on that stage. I was very shocked that he nailed Dean. Me? You could expect it. Dean? That was hard. Dean must have sat there thinking, ‘What?’ Dean must have been shocked.”
Meanwhile, others call it happy banter between colleagues and should not be twisted to give new color. Keep following our page for more sports-related content and news.
