Gambling and sports are two very intertwined things that are always in vogue amongst sports fans. And as of late, the golf world is also getting sucked into the mix.
Apart from allegations of gambling, there are also accusations of players cheating and wagerers influencing the decision for their profit.
In the middle of all these controversies, one name comes up more than often: Phil Mickelson.
The legendary lefty golfer has had a huge impact on the game of golf ever since he started playing. But lately, his name is coming up for all the wrong reasons.
Even though the officials brushed aside the accusations at the time, the upcoming PGA tour has brought the topic into the limelight all over again.
Ahead of the Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour officials released a statement to enlighten fans regarding the necessity of responsible gaming.
Responsible Gambling
Do you know that the month of September is the month of Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM)? Initially started by the American Gaming Association.
The primary focus of this program is to educate people on responsible wagering. It helps people to understand the need for a disciplined structure and boundary setting.
This year, it was PGA’s turn to educate people on responsible wagering, and this resulted in the announcement. But what about PGA board member Phil Mickelson?
Mickelson is one of the few athletes who openly agreed to the fact that he enjoyed gambling and indulged himself from time to time.
However, Mickelson strongly maintained the stance that Mickelson indulged himself responsibly and never went overboard.
But if you read his autobiographical book named Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk, he has openly agreed to have lost around 100 million dollars due to his gambling habit. Therefore, this gives mixed signals to the fans who look up to him.
