Everyone thought that Chase Elliot would make it big at the Watkins Glen International held on Sunday. However, fate had different plans for the Hendrik Motorsports star.
Due to a crucial error from Rick Hendrik’s team, Chase Elliot fell short. This sent fans into a frenzy as they did not see their favorite lift the trophy.
A lot was riding on this race. Elliot needed to win this race in order to make it to the playoffs. However, things turned south, and it seems that that pressure got to the #9 camp.
Up until now, Watkins Glen International turned out fairly well for the HMS camp. With Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot winning twice in the last four matches, the track seems productive for the team.
In fact, William Byron from HMS camp finished the race first on Sunday and said that things went peachy for him.
But things did not go so well for Elliot. Elliot started the race in the 15th position. Still, he managed somehow and slowly climbed up the board in the first two stages.

However, things started to go astray as slowly as he complained that his car did not have enough fuel. However, according to the team’s calculation, Elliot still had around two more laps’ worth of fuel.
This was misinformation, as the car was actually out of fuel. As a result, Elliot’s car stopped at the 55th lap due to no fuel, and this did not sit well with the racer or the fans.
Post the race, Twitter has been a ground for heated conversations. Several fans took to the internet to show their discontent with the HMS crew chief Alan Gustafson.
While some were just expressing their anger, others turned pretty hostile and called for Alan’s sacking. As of now, there has been no official statement from the HMS team, so it is just a matter of waiting.
