Shubhman Gill, named the player of the tournament all thanks to his phenomenal performance in IPL 2023, now finds himself at the center of all attention ahead of the World Test Championship from June 7 at The Oval.
Shubhman proved himself to be a player with a lot of potential during IPL 2023, as it is primarily his performance that helped Gujarat make it to the IPL 2023 Final. The talented opener is now being hailed as the next big superstar in Indian Cricket after Viral Kohli.
However, it is his performance in World Test Championship that will tell us if he is worthy of laying any claim to the title of ‘King of Indian Cricket’.
Shubhman’s stellar performance against Australia in Brisbane showed us his class as a batsman. But he will have his work cut out for him in England.
The pitch in the Oval will not be anything like the pitches he got used to during the two months of IPL. While it is not as tricky as other pitches in England, a fresh pitch on a cloudy day can prove to be quite treacherous.
But according to former India batter WA Raman, “This generation of cricketers is used to it. The only thing Gill needs to do is curb the adrenaline rush that is part and parcel of T20 Cricket. He will get a few practice sessions, and with the maturity that he has, it should not be a major problem”.
WA Raman is also of the opinion that Gill is in a positive mindset owing to his superb performance in IPL, which is sure to contribute to his success in the WTC 2023 final.
