After losing against Dmitry Bivol, Canelo Alvarez shared a statement claiming that his opponent deserved the win and that he was the true champion.
The simple, straightforward statement, “I lost today and he won,” is a true show of sportsmanship. The Mexican boxer further added, “No excuses. I think that’s what happens in the sport of boxing, you win or lose“. Therefore, Alvarez is not giving excuses or trying to talk his way out of this fix.
But in a recent turn of events, this situation changed a little. Ahead of his upcoming bout with Lermell Charlo, Alvarez shared that he is not 100% ready for the fight with Charlo as he is suffering from a specific injury that he sustained during the fight with Bivol.
Alvarez also claimed that he was not able to give his all in the fight against Bivol. As a result, he lost when he clearly “shouldn’t have lost.” This is a statement that does not sit well with fans.
From No Excuses To 15 Excuses Per Second
Earlier, Alvarez claimed that Bivol was a better fighter, but now, according to Alvarez, “I suffered a rib injury during training. I shouldn’t have fought….”
Alvarez further added as he said how the defeat affected him. Alvarez said, “I still haven’t gotten over that moment. It affected me deeply because I shouldn’t have lost, I am simply better than him.” Therefore, this change of stance is something that seems unnecessary and uncalled for, to be honest.
In fact, fans were not disappointed at the Mexican fighter for not holding his own in the ring. But now, after changing his stance so fat, he is definitely not casting a good light on himself.
A user jokingly posted, “He went from no excuses during the post-interview to 15 excuses per second now 😂 You cheapen your image, champ, cause even with all that, we still dont see you beating Bivol sry.’ Therefore, this should come as a wake-up call to the champ and get his act straight.
