Brian Harman is currently riding the waves of success after winning the 151st Open Championship that was held on Sunday. The PGA Tour golfer had an amazing streak going on starting from Friday. The Golfer led the game since round 2 and maintained his momentum throughout.
This was a huge win for Harman as it was his first-ever win in any Major tournament. Still, Harman is not a new name in the golfing world, as he has won two PGA Tours earlier. Therefore, it is understandable what this win meant for the golfer.
However, the good news does not end here. Harman is also currently being leveled with the golfing legend Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods has set several records throughout his flourishing sports career, one of them being a low score of 65 at the Royal Liverpool at a par-72 Open Championship back in 2006. Therefore, it is surprising how come a golfer with no prior major win under his name matched the GOAT. Subsequently exceeding everyone’s expectations.
On Sunday, Harman finished with a 13-under par. His final scorecard read 67-65-69-70, with each round being under par. Moreover, Harman also set a 5-stroke lead in order to make the cut. And subsequently followed that in order to maintain his momentum to create a gap between him and his runner-ups. Such a game was last seen in the year 1934 when Henry Cotton held a 5-shot lead and won his first Open Championship.
Along with the prestigious title and accreditations, Brian also took him a whopping amount of $3 million in prize money.
With the 2023-24 season around the corner, fans are now wondering if this is the beginning of a new era that Brian Harman will dominate. Meanwhile, others call it beginner’s luck and say that it is too soon to determine.
