The sign-stealing controversy has reached a newer stage. As a result, more and more individuals are getting sucked into it. And now, Dave Portnoy is coming out as the number two face in this whirlwind of controversy.
Portnoy pointed at Ohio State for executing similar practices against Penn Quakers. Ohio is the second team that got sucked into this sign-stealing controversy and in-person scouting allegations. Still, the team did not signal any significant role.
It has been a few weeks since the controversy broke surface. Primarily, the NCAA, Central Michigan, and the Big Ten followed their investigation. But the overall outcry regarding the issue is far from over.
Fans thought that a few suspensions and resignations kicked the matter to the curb. But that is not the case. This week, things took a different turn on this controversy.
The New Chapter In Sign Stealing COntroversy.
Portnoy brought forward some really interesting shreds of evidence to the foray, which added a layer to the whole scandal.
Portnoy’s recent post on social media platform X sounded ominous and read, ‘I have a reliable source that tells me Ohio State had Penn State’s PRACTICE film before they played them in Happy Vally last year. Very interesting indeed.”
According to Portnoy, he has heard whispers that Ohio State’s coach apparently enlisted his siblings to probe Michigan and to learn their play.
Portnoy further lauded Connor Stallions for his services to the Michigan Football team and even took Michigan’s side in this whole scandal.
But what this controversy primarily highlighted was how competitive sports can turn asinine if team attitudes are not kept under check.
This scandal not only cast a shadow on a single team but on all the teams of the Big Ten conference. The scandal brought forth a problematic system that is eating away at the integrity and ethics of a competitive sport.
