Homosexuality has found its way into most facets of society, and why not? Love should never be judged. The makers of Pride Tape had the same idea when they decided to manufacture a rainbow-colored stick tape for the NHL for the players to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.
But somehow, the NHL decided to ban the players from donning the tape. This left the makers and even some fans disappointed with the board.
According to an official statement released by the makers of Pride Tape, “The league has used language in recent days that would prohibit the tape from any proximity to NHL hockey. We hope the league — and teams — will again show commitment to this important symbol of combating homophobia.”
LGBTQ+ Community VS NHL
But this is not the first time the organization has put a ban on players from donning specialized or ‘specialty’ jerseys during the warmup practices or even the games.
As a result, several players decided to take matters into their own hands and decided to sit out practice games.
Meanwhile, some other players believed that the pride flag or anything related to the LGBTQ+ community goes against their beliefs. And urged the organization to ban the same. One such name was Ivan Provorov, who believed that it was a conflict with his faith.
Therefore, to appease both sides of the discussion, the organization decided to ban any and every form of specialty jerseys. According to the official statement released by the league, the decision is ‘terribly understood and mis-potyrayed’.
In fact, officials believe that putting a ban on such items would help players function better or focus more on the game. But fans smell homophobia.
