The BCCI release the names of Indian players who are going to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shocking news for Cricket lovers as Shami will play in Bumrah’s position, and Siraj and Thakur will be back-ups.
The BCCI has finally released the names and confirmed that Mohammed Shami will play in the position of Jasprit Bumrah. According to BCCI, Shami will be playing for India in the upcoming warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand on October 17 and 19. He will link up in Brisbane with the squad. Also, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur both are in the squad and will be there for backup. Siraj was named the Player of the Series against South Africa. Both of them will meet with their squad shortly.
On October 3, Bumrah was ruled out from the World Cup after a back injury. However, head Coach Rahul Dravid and Captain Rohit Sharma have thought about Shami, who had experience playing in Australia. He also was in the squad while India was playing against Australia in 2015, and he was the second-highest wicket taker. Excluding Shami, there will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya.
But the most shocking part is Shami hasn’t played a single match for India in the last three months. Earlier, he was in the squad against Australia and South Africa, but he tested positive for Covid-19. The BCCI has a clear vision that Shami will be a good attack for India and is a great replacement for Bumrah. Right now, there are four reserve players, they are Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Ravi Bishnoi.
