Just one day before the start of the World Cup 2022, Benzema was ruled out from the tournament after tearing a muscle in his left thigh.
The Ballon d’Or, Champions League, and La Liga winner, Karim Benzema, was the first choice of Didier Deschamps. But unfortunately, he was ruled out from the World Cup with a thigh injury.
Karim Benzema was found guilty of a blackmail scandal in the previous World Cup, and French coach Deschamps had to put him outside the team. Benzema had the aim to win the World Cup with his fellow team members in Russia, but destiny thought different things for Benzema.
Undoubtedly last year was remarkable for Karim Benzema as he wore the armband for Real Madrid and was able to win the La Liga and Champions League. In the 2021-22 season, Benzema was able to score 44 goals and had 15 assists in all competitions. For his performance, he received the Ballon d’Or.
This year everyone was expecting that he would be one of the top contenders for the Golden Boots and that France would be in the upper hand while Benzema is in the squad with Mbappe, Griezmann, Coman, and Dembele. But density again betrays Benzema as he has to be in the stands to support his team. The medical team has given him a three-week recovery time.
When Deschamps was asked if he would replace Benzema, he replied, “No. This is a quality group. In everything they do, both on and off the pitch, they are united. I have confidence in them.” In the last couple of months, France has seen a lot of injuries as Pogba, Kante, and Nkunku all have suffered from injuries and couldn’t make it to Qatar. Though there are a lot of missing players, the team and coach are confident that they will be successful in their journey to retain the World Cup title.
