Football is a sport that involves a whole lot of emotions, be it on the field or off.
And this was proven true once again. Just days ago, USA’s Alex Morgan landed herself in a world of controversy during an NSWL fixture. This sparked a row of mishaps and resulted in Morgan lashing out at the referee.
USNWT co-captain is not having the dandiest times after her recent scuffle with the referee during an NWSL fixture. But what landed her in trouble, more so, was her online activity post the fixture.
Due to such ‘questionable’ behavior, the footballer is currently facing hefty fines as a consequence of her actions.
The Tweet That Led To Trouble:
Morgan’s team was already moping up the field with a disappointing 1-2 loss on their home turf. Adding injury to insult, Morgan is facing fines and possible suspension. What led to this event being escalated was a reckless challenge by Stine Pedersen.
Sources said that Stine Pedersen went hard on Alex Morgan in the penalty area. However, the standing referee of the match did not give a yellow card to the Danish footballer, and this did not sit well with Morgan.
Soon after the match was over, the 34-year-old took to X to share a video of the tackle with a caption that said that Morgan was lucky that she saw the defender coming.
Otherwise, she said that she would have “100% not be walking.” This did not sit well with NSWL officials, and this led to the fine.
According to the NSWL official statement released to the press. Morgan’s comment was detrimental to the image of the league. Therefore, Mogan would have to face a fine.
But fans called out this decision, saying that the league was trying to save its hide and that the league must think about athletes more. Keep following our page for more sports-related news.
