What Mike Tyson was back in the 90s, Deontay Wilder is to us 2023 boxing fans. Popularly lauded as one of the scariest men alive, he is not the man you would want to mess with.
Wilder’s 42 out of 43 wins are by KOs. He is truly the One Punch Man. But even the greatest of the greats would meet their match, and something similar happened. And this match was none other than our beloved Gypsy King, Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury did what no other boxer of his weight class managed to do. He dropped the fierce and brutal Deontay Wilder. The groundbreaking match took place back in 2021, and since then, Wilder fought just once.
Things have been somewhat quiet since then, but recently, Wilder appeared on the Blue Blood Sports TV podcast and hinted at a possible return.
Wilder Is Getting Wilder?
During the whole interview, Wilder brought some credible information about his possible return and how the heavyweight division is currently in the worst possible shape.
According to Deontay Wilder’s own words, “When you see the heavyweight division – I kinda agree it’s in its worst moment its ever been in history,” he further added, “I brought the excitement back to boxing.”
Well, that might be a far-fetched statement, but he is right that heavyweight boxing has gone a little drab over the course of his absence.
But what should send fans over the edge is the news of his possible return. According to Deontay Wilder, ‘We’re trying to plan something mid-to-late January. 2024 is gonna be amazing for me.”
But is it something more than just a return to boxing, or is he changing paces? Wilder has already been quite vocal about his wish to conquer the octagon with his fighting skills, this could be that step that he has been planning for a while.
