Denny Hamlin is an opinionated individual. He rarely is seen shying away from airing his opinion, no matter the reception he is slated to receive. As a result, this has made him a hated racer in the NASCAR fan community. And his recent incident with Kyle Larson did not help Hamlin’s case at all.
Following the Sunday’s Cup race held at the Pocono Raceway when he made some explosive comments about the accident, which did not sit well with the fans. As a result, even the die-hard fans of the 42-year-old driver were not seen defending his standpoint. Even his own fans have gone ahead and labeled the driver narcissistic and accused him of playing the victim card, and that it has become a pattern now.
Jeff Gluck, a well-known NASCAR journalist, tweeted Hamlin’s press interaction, which goes as follows, “ Some of Denny Hamlin in the media center: — “I’m not here to defend anything.” — “I left him more than a lane off Turn 2.” — “I guarantee you if the roles were reversed, it would be the same way.” — “I’ve been on the shit end of so many of these results.”
Now, Hamlin was well aware of the criticism he would be facing after his press conversation. However, he did not back down and showed no remorse for his statements. Lately, Hamlin has found himself regularly entwined with controversy this season. However, he is seen explaining that even if the roles were reversed, the outcome would have ended up being the same.
After the pictures from the crash were revealed, it was seen that it was Hamlin and not Larson who initiated the crash. It was seen that it was Hamlin who bumped into Larson’s #5 Camaro. Therefore, denying his mistake completely and acting as a victim has made Denny Hamlin the newest villain of NASCAR.
