Tennis is one of the most strenuous sports that is out there. Having impeccable skills is never enough; you need to have the mental capability to push through physical discomfort, something Emma Raducanu did.
Emma Raducanu is a British player who pushed herself to the brink during a match with Coco Gauff while recovering from three surgeries.
At the young age of 18, Emma lifted the US Open. This made her the first and the youngest British woman to achieve this feat after 44 long years. However, with this victory came the baggage of the victory. With glory and fame came the price.
After several injuries and constant pressure to do one up, it threw Raducanu down a spiral, and the match with Coco Gauff was the point where she was feeling the lowest.
Even after everything life is throwing at her, she is still refusing to let go of her love for tennis. In fact, she maintains a healthy relationship with her fans.
She keeps her fans updated on her recovery journey and how she is holding up amidst everything. And now, on top of all the things she is facing, she is subjected to negative comments from disgruntled fans.
This has finally sent the British athlete over the edge, and Emma was seen issuing a fiery response directed towards the naysayers.
Handling Hate With Maturity
Even though Raducanu spends a considerable amount of time in court, she still enjoys the other things in life. And she never shies away from displaying her other interests from time to time.
This provided a perfect opportunity for the trolls as they did not miss a step in commenting hateful things, claiming that her career is over or that she needs to stick to the things that she is good at.
Such reaction from netizens did not sit well with the 20-year-old tennis player, and she responded to the trolls with a terse and cryptic message.
The Brit composed a terse message responding, “24 hrs in a day 🙌.” This could mean a thousand different things.
But one possible inference is that even players need to take time off from the court and use the 24-hour time period in a day to pursue other passions as well. This shows maturity on the young player’s part in dealing with bullies.
