After a snowboarding accident, Chase Elliot has been absent from the track for six weeks. However, once returned, Chase found himself fighting an uphill battle to regain his former glory.
Winner of the Most Popular Driver Award five times in a row. He has been facing a huge challenge to regain this former form since his return from the hospital in April.
Despite putting everything on NHMS, Eliot missed his mark by mere inches. This should come as a wake-up call for Elliot. Not only Elliot but several NASCAR insiders notice Elias’ poor performance post-racing.
With another event coming up at Pocono, the chances of Elliot moving up the scoreboard are slimming. Currently, Elliot is facing an uphill battle because he has to secure 60 points in the next six matches to earn a place in the playoffs.
Therefore, this is bad news for everyone: Elliot, his team, Hendrik Motorsport, and even NASCAR itself. According to an insider, “We saw the ratings dip; whatever 4-6 weeks when he was out, we took what was like half a million viewers hit, just him not being there. You can still sell the merchant stuff, but it’ll hurt the sport for sure if the most popular driver in the world, across all forms of racing, doesn’t make it.”
Therefore, Chase Elliot is a big viewership magnet. But lately, due to his abysmal performance, things look rocky for NASCAR as well as Chase Elliot’s career.
But Fans Haven’t Completely Given Up:
Nevertheless, fans are still holding on to a slim glimmer of hope that Chase will come around and end this season with a bang.
Some of the notable figures who are still in Elliot’s court are Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon. Both of whom are established racers and have several accolades to their name.
