After three days and four rounds of a nerve-racking chess game, we have a winner for the Chess World Cup 2023. And to break every Indian’s heart, it is not Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
Still, Indians can be proud that Prag or Praggnanandhaa did not budge easily. Magnus Carlsen had to face off against the young chess master four times and in tie-breakers in order to win the FIDE World Cup.
After the second tie-breaker match on Thursday, we finally had a winner and it was Magnus Carlsen. Carlen picked up the FIDE World Cup first time in his career after defeating the wiz from Chennai.
This was very important for Magnus Carlsen as well as for Prag’s career. Due to his phenomenal performance, Pragg has sealed his spot in the prestigious Candidates Tournament.
The purpose of having the FIDE World Cup is to find a challenger to face the world champion, Ding Liren, in the next championship.
Pragg And The FIDE World Cup:
Pragg was also an enigma for the fans and the critics of the sport because he was the youngest candidate to rise to such a level. His contender, Magnus, is currently 32 years old.
In fact, Pragg is one of the three youngest players, standing alongside the legendary Bobby Fischer. Therefore, it hints at Pragg’s bright future that awaits him. Fun fact: not many people know this.
