Suni Lee is one of the most influential figures in the US gymnastics. Ever since her debut, Lee has been one of the dominant forces that carried the weight of the US gymnastics team forward. Lee has brought forth some of the most memorable performances in the past. However, time is not on Lee’s side for a while now. Due to a kidney condition, Lee has not been able to concentrate on her game, which further affected her performance. Despite all the things this young woman faced, the 2020 Olympic all-around champion still gave a commendable performance.
Due to her ailments, Lee was not able to finish her stint in the XFinity Gymnastics Championship, which also resulted in Lee losing the chance to make it to the 2023 Senior US National team. Nonetheless, the final roster was set just hours after the legendary Simone Biles created history as she clinched a record-breaking eighth national title. The list features big-league names like Leanne Wong, Skye Blakely, Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, etc.
This was sad for the Lee fandom, as they expected their favorite gymnast to see at the podium. This also affected Lee to a great extent, as she was seen going candid in an interview saying, “it’s like, ‘Oh, my gosh, now if I go out there and I don’t show them I’m better than I was at the last Olympics,’ people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, she didn’t deserve to win.”
This shows the phases of insecurity even the toughest of us face. Lee further talked about her mental health condition as she said, “I have been in and out of the gym just because there’s just so many doctor’s appointments, and I’m taking a lot of medication, so it kind of varies every day.” This broke fans of gymnastics fans to see such an accomplished gymnast go through such an ordeal.
