Last season, John Rahm was one of the biggest names in golf to turn down an offer from LIV Golf in order to stay with the PGA Tour. Rumors suggest that the Spaniard let go of a deal of $400 million dollars from the Saudi-funded league.
Some of the prominent names that are attached to this league include Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and many more.
Rory Mcllroy and John Rahm Criticize LIV Golf:
Unlike Justin Thomas and Rory Mcllroy, Rahm was never seen taking a jibe at the LIV League. However, things changed when he addressed a rumor of a swap. Rahm clearly stated his opinion about the Saudi-funded league.
Rahm said, “I laugh when people rumor me with @livgolf_league.” However, this was not all of it, as he further added, “I’ve never liked the format. And I always have a good time with Phil and Sergio in the practice rounds of majors.”
Therefore, the comment clearly stated his ideas about the LIV Golf and, in the process, quashed the rumors of him moving to the league anytime soon.
LIV events follow a format of 54 holes without any cuts. Meanwhile, PGA events came with 72 holes and a cut that people generally place after round 2. Furthermore, LIV also features a limited field consisting of just 48 players. Therefore, no wonder LIV events are a hard pass for many golfers.
One such golfer is Rory McIlroy. When addressing a rumor of him taking the helm of LIV, Mcllroy responded with a quite fiery statement, “If LIV Golf was the last place to play golf on earth, I would retire…That’s how I feel about it. Seriously.”
But in a new turn of events, rumors say that PGA and investors of LIV events have teamed up in order to bring something new to the golfing world. This could change the whole dynamic between PGAT loyalists and the golfers who made the switch.
