It has been two years since golf fans were able to witness the Solheim Cup. So, why not take a stroll down memory lane and revisit one of the most iconic moments from the 2021 edition of the Solheim Cup?
The incident we are talking about involves the quite cheerful Nelly Korda. It was the opening day of the 2021 Solheim Cup. The sun was shining, and things looked chirpy for a while.
But one thing led to another, and the ever-cheerful Nelly Korda became the cause of someone’s disappointment. In case you forgot, do not worry, as we are here to jog your memory.
The Disappointing Error
On the opening day, Ally Ewing and Nelly Korda of the US team faced Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Madelene Sagstrom of Europe. It was supposed to be an afternoon four-ball session.
At the 13th hole, Nelly Korda’s ball approached the hole and stopped right above it. In an attempt to speed up the game, Sagstorm picked up the ball three seconds earlier than she was supposed to.
As a result, Korda received one stroke less on her overall score. This did not matter too much at the time, but the US team did end up dominating their opponents in the respective match, and that changed the course of the game.
But Nelly always thought that it was an honest mistake on Sagstorm’s part. Hence, Nelly did not feel good about winning the match. She expressed her disappointment quite publicly later on.
Even though Nelly had nothing to do with Sagstorm’s mistake, she still felt bad as they were the better golfers, mostly throughout the match. With the 2023 Solheim Match fast approaching and both the golfers will be taking part, it will be interesting to see how they both fare.
