Nobody could have anticipated that Lewis Hamilton would go 21 months without a major win. It has been nearly two years since Hamilton made any sort of impact on the game.
This is a hard pill to swallow for F1 fans, but it is the reality nonetheless. These last two seasons were not kind to Mercedes and their star asset, Lewis Hamilton.
While fans do believe that there is some technical issue with the car that has left the F1 wiz stranded. But, when you talk to Hamilton about the same, he will present you with a different perspective.
According to Hamilton, he is struggling with one of the key F1 skills that he is famous for – yep, qualifying! Meanwhile, George Russel, his teammate, is somebody who is breezing through qualifiers with ease.
So, can the awful performance by the Briton be something that can be attributed to more of a psychological issue?
Is It The End Of The Line?
Meanwhile, Lewis is more tied up with his poor performance and underscoring. George Russel was heard bragging about him being the favorite.
In a recent interview, George said, “I had a nice call from one of the chief engineers who said ‘George, the only reason we had a chance of victory was because of the amazing job you did the whole weekend.”
Does it mean that there is an air of favoritism in the Mercedes camp? Well, by the looks of it, the answer might be a ‘yes.’
Even though many fans will raise an eyebrow at Mercedes’ decision to put all their bets on one single driver, Especially after the quite erratic crash by Russel at the event in Singapore.
But others believe that this is just part and parcel of the sport and that teams need to support the players who are producing results. Only time will tell what are the consequences of such favoritism.
