Splash Brothers’ Klay Thompson is widely lauded as one of the greatest three-pointers in the NBA. Thompson has come a long way since his debut as a Golden State Warriors rookie.
Since then, he has gone on to become NBA champ four times. This shows the long journey he has taken to be where he is. But whenever anyone asks Klay about his success, he talks about the huge role of legendary Kobe Bryant in the success story.
Thompson has admitted that Braynt was his role model and has played a huge role in the former’s life. The legendary laker was the reason why Klay continued his grind and reached where he is today.
In a recent podcast named Podcast P with the one and only Paul George, Klay recalled his encounter with Kobe and how it felt playing against the champ. Klay remembers being absolutely awestruck with Kobe’s game.
Klay also talked about one of the shortest interactions he had with the player and how it left a lasting impression.
Going Back In Time:
Back in 2013, during the NBA global games, Klay Thompson was hitting the gym all jet-lagged. As he was benching, he felt a light tap. As soon as he turned around, he saw the GOAT standing behind him.
Bryant recalled this interaction, “He didn’t even have to tell me …it was one word, all he said was ‘sup, and that’s all I needed to hear…it was my favorite memory with Kobe, all he said was one word….”Later on, when Kobe was asked about the interaction, he said, “I knew Klay would be good when I saw him in the weight room.” Klay said that he was absolutely elated after Kobe’s comment about Klay.
Kobe was one of the most accomplished players of his generation. Still, he was humble and helpful toward new players, and this interaction was proof of that.
