The echoes of Racers Forum still reverberate in the hearts and minds of the racing community. The current champions, Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski, presided over the event and discussed the future of the sport quite extensively. Their thoughts and concerns were heard by all and agreed upon by many.
But, one thing that did happen after the forum is that fans were left averse and distraught by the racing team. As a result, one of the most beloved stars of the community, Dale Earnhardt Jr., refuted Gordon’s insight initially.
The Shift
Earnhardt Jr. has always been very vocal about his opinion of the racing community. He has never shied away from discussing the future of the sport whenever he had the chance.
Several drivers before and after Earnhardt have discussed that the very format of NASCAR is more driver-oriented, and Gordon believes that it is time that the community shifts towards a more team-oriented approach. This ticked off Earnhardt, and he voiced his counter-argument quite vocally.
However, later on, he realized that Gordon’s suggestion would make teams more marketable, and that could be great for business.
In fact, Gordon has a point. Take Ferrari as an example. It is one of the biggest teams in NASCAR that boasts a loyal fanbase.
Now, if we shift the focus from drivers to the team, the fanbase will become more static. This will help generate steadier revenues. This is a model that sports like football, soccer, and baseball follow.
In fact, this will also help teams with franchising and other similar situations. However, in order to properly implement this model, we will need a little more time.
Officials should think about a two-year to five-year plan to properly implement this revolutionary idea.
