Irving, Durant, and Harden were meant to be one of the greatest trios in Basketball history. However, things did not work out the way everyone thought it would. The Brooklyn Nets’ expensive experiment did not manage to capture people’s attention or win any titles. And this left fans underwhelmed.
After a multi-million dollar failed experiment, the trio kind of broke away. Harden shifted to the Philadelphia 76ers, Irving went to the Dallas Mavericks, and Durant signed up with the Phoenix Suns. Everyone who was associated with the experiment had their own opinion about the failure. Irving recently came up with his own analogy came up with a witty analogy.
According to several sports analysts. The coming together of the trio was more of a forced marriage than anything else. While others claimed that the drive to shine individually was the reason that broke this union. However, Irving’s own opinion about the union will certainly leave you in splits. In a recent interview, Irving mentioned that this experiment was nothing more than a gimmick. According to Irving, “I’ve always told them that ‘this is bigger than just us being teammates right now.”
However, Irving also maintained that the trio did deliver, but not in the way everyone thought they would. The results were sparse and mostly underwhelming. Irving in fact equated the whole thing with a breakup. In his words, “It’s kind of like the girl that got away… Looking back, you got a great bad wife, kids & you’re like, ‘Tss.’ I don’t wanna second guess it, I don’t wanna get in trouble with my wife. I’m not thinking about nobody else, baby.”
This was truly a sad state of affairs for everyone involved. And this is why Irving tried masking it as humorous instead of something painful. Keep following our page for more sports-related content.
