T20 tournaments have become popular in the recent past, back in the late 2000s. The T20 league was the first T20 blast that was conducted in the world. It was first initiated in England in 2003, but soon after that, it was overshadowed by the glamour and glitz of IPL or the Indian Premier League.
IPL actually revolutionized the cricket world ever since it came in 2008. It brought together entertainment and cricket in a way that the world had never seen before. There are a lot of debates going on about IPL vs PSL ever since the Pakistan Cricket Board introduced PSL in 2015.
After that, many such leagues were introduced, and no other league could match the popularity IPL got from the time it was introduced. The Caribbean Premier League was introduced in 2013, and after that, the Pakistan Cricket Board also launched a Pakistan Super League in 2015. From the moment PSL was launched, it got an instant hit. It is one of the biggest T20 leagues after the IPL.
IPL Vs PSL: The Difference
IPL and PSL are platforms for overseas and domestic cricketers to showcase their talent and leave the audience in awe. It is the mad skills of the players that are a connecting point between both leagues. But there are various differences among the two leagues.

The Origin
Back on September 13, 2007, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) found IPL. The idea of the IPL camp from Lalit Modi, the BCCI Vice-President back then, as India won the World Cup.
The board held an auction on January 24, 2008, to choose the team owners. The total price of the franchise cost around 400 million dollars. The first IPL match was between RCB, or Royal Challengers Bangalore, and KKR, or Kolkata Knight Riders on April 18, 2008.
After many years of planning and two failed attempts, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced the launch of PSL in September 2015. The commercial rights of the franchise were sold over a span of ten years. It cost around 93 million dollars in December 2015.
For three years, Ramiz Raza and Wasim Akram were the ambassadors for the league, and the first PSL match was held on 4 February 2016.
Format
IPL featured eight teams initially. But it has a total of ten teams, where all the teams play each other multiple times in different stages. The four best team goes to the semi-finals. And then, the two teams face each other in the finale.
The PSL has a total of six teams, and it is played in a double round-robin format. Here, all the teams face each other twice, and then the four teams advance to the next level, and then there is the great finale.
Earnings
The winner of IPL 2022 earned a total of INR 20 crore. This is a kind of league that pays more than INR 10 crore to their winner. Meanwhile, the IPL runners-up in 2022 got INR 12.5 crore. The winners of PSL 2022 received INR 3.4 crore, and the runner-up got INR 1.5 crore.
Player’s Salary
The IPL has been an extravaganza since its inception. BCCI does not allow Indian players to play in any other leagues. And the reason behind this is that the money in IPL is more than compensation.
In 2022 PSL, the platinum category players earned $170,000 at the maximum, which is around INR 1.27 crore. Some of the top players in the platinum category are Shaheed Afridi, Babar Azam, and Kieron Pollard.
Team Purse
The 10 IPL teams spent more than INR 500 crore during the two-day mega auction during IPL 2022. The total purse was INR 561.5 crore for the ten teams. The PSL is still working on a draft system, and till now, there is no team purse for PSL teams.
Individual Awards
This is another format through which we can differentiate between IPL vs PSL. The IPL gives out various individual awards. The highest-scoring player wins the Orange Cap. And the player who took the most number of wickets in the league wins the Purple Cap. The player who makes the biggest difference in the league is given the award of the Most Valuable Player.
The PSL gives out prize money to the highest scorer and the top wicket-taker. The highest wicket-taker and the top-scorer earn INR 3.75 lakhs, and the player of the tournament receives prize money of INR 14.1 lakh.

Though PSL has made some significant progress, it has to come a long way to match the craze IPL has globally. The IPL has got a much higher budget, it generates more revenue than PSL, and gives out more prize money to the players and the teams.
PSL is also coming up steadily and has seen some positive growth in its profit and revenue in recent years. So now IPL vs PSL is clear from these determining factors, and there is no doubt in saying that IPL is ahead of PSL, but PSL is close behind it.
