It has been nine years since Rory Mcllroy has had his major win. His last major win came all the way back in 2014 when he won the PGA championship.
Since then, things have seemed rocky for the 34-year-old Irish golfer. Therefore, it is fairly obvious why Rory is willing to go the mile for this season.
However, days before the 2023 Open Championship, authorities took a decision on Rory’s instruction and canceled the pre-tournament press conference.
Authorities confirmed this news and wrote, “We have been advised that Rory McIlroy will no longer be taking part in a preview press conference tomorrow morning.”
Is Canceling Pre-Tournament Press Conferences Rory Mcllroy’s Ritual?
This should not come as a shock to any long-time golf fan. Rory Mcllroy has always been very vocal about the PGA Tour since the inception of LIV Golf.
However, after an uncomfortable press conference at the RBC Canadian after the amalgamation news. Rory has decided to cut down on his media visibility. And the repercussions of this decision can be seen quite often.
Rory also canceled his US Open pre-tournament conference, as well as the Genesis Scottish Open’s press conference. Therefore, one can notice a pattern.
Sports critics claim that this year could be Rory’s year. He seems to have been in good form and has a good chance to end his nine-year drought.
Secondly, his last win was in the same course; therefore, Rory has a fair idea about the challenges and opportunities the course might provide. This would certainly put the odds in favor of this 34-year-old Irish golfer.
Therefore, it is understandable why Rory is going to give it all and would try to keep a calm head on his shoulder before the game. After all, an athlete should only worry about the game and not the media presence.
