The winning streak started by Mirabai Chanu seems to be going well for the team India in Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. On day 5th of the Commonwealth games, the team India wins a gold medal in Lawn Bowls for the first time.
Women’s Lawn Bowls team bags gold medal in the Commonwealth games. The women’s team defeated South Africa ( 17 – 10) in the Lawn Bowls finals. The team consisting of Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Pinki made history for India by bringing the first ever gold in Lawn Bowls for the first time.
The second gold medal of day 5 of CWG came from Table Tennis. The men’s TT team won gold for the second time in the Commonwealth games. Indian TT team defeated Singapore in the finals, winning the gold for India.
We already had several winners in different categories of weightlifting. Day 5 was no exception. In the men’s 96 kg category Vishal Thakur scores a combined best lift of 346 kgs winning s silver medal for the team.
The Badminton mixed team lost to Malaysia in the finals, winning a silver medal after the loss. The fourth day in Birmingham was also great for India as India won a silver (Sushila Devi) and a bronze ( Vijay Kumar Yadav) medal in Judo. Harjinder Kaur also won a bronze medal in the women’s 71kg weightlifting competition.
Currently, India ranks 6th in the overall tally of medals, winning five golds, five silvers, and four bronze medals in the CWG. It remains to be seen how day 6 of the Commonwealth games changes the overall tally of medals for India.
