UFC camps are polarized right now. Fans and critics are all wondering who will be stepping up to Israel Adesanya for his title. Everyone in the business seems to have a different opinion about who might be fighting the 185 lbs champ for a shot at his title. Sources suggest that Sean Strickland is in the talks for being Adesanya’s opponent in the title match. However, this has riled up mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
Helen Yee, an established UFC fighter, has some very strong opinions about the bout. The Welterweight commented, saying that UFC should have waited for Dricus Du Plessis, as he was a better fit.
Meanwhile, when Kevin Holland was asked about his opinion on the fight, he said, “ It looks like Strickland’s gonna be the number one candidate for that.” But again, the fighter suggested another name, Dricus Du Plessis. Holland went into detail and said, “It would make money and it would make sense to probably wait for Du Plessis, it’s definitely a new challenge.” Therefore, Holland presented his reasoning from a commercial standpoint as well. Since Adesanya is a major name in the UFC, therefore a fight for his title should bring in good money. And since Plessis is a hot topic in the community, several sports critics believe that he is definitely the better fit.
Sean Strickland’s current record is 27-5-0, while Plessis’ current fight statistics is 20-2-0. Therefore, Stickland is obviously the more experienced fighter than Du Plessis. Nonetheless, after winning against Robert Whittaker in the UFC 290, Du Plessis has proved his worth and is currently believed to be one of the highest crowd pullers. Nonetheless, only time will tell who will fit the role of Adesanya’s opponent. UFC is all set to release their decision pretty soon, and fans are waiting for it eagerly.
