Harry Kane: How Will He Be Remembered?
Let’s assume it is 2028, and Harry Kane announces his retirement. How are you going to remember him? A goalscorer, prolific finisher, unselfish in the penalty box, England and Spurs all-time goal scorer, or Premier League’s all-time goalscorer. Or you can remember him as one of the legendary strikers who failed to hold a trophy in his entire career. Maybe he deserves better. Let’s see his journey throughout the years.
Career Start
Kane started his career for a local club in 2004, and later he joined Arsenal youth academy. At that time, Kane was not very athletic, according to Liam Brady, and this was the reason he was removed. After giving a couple of trials for a long time, he was finally taken to the Tottenham Hotspur academy, where he started his professional career.
Leyton Orient (Loan)
In 2011, Kane went to Leyton Orient on a loan spell. At that time, manager Russel Slade was excited to bring Kane to his team. He started the season as a substitute forward. His first goal came against Sheffield Wednesday. After that, he scored a brilliant free-kick as well. He was able to manage only five goals in a total of 18 appearances.
Millwall (Loan)
Before coming to the winter window, Kane was sent to a Championship team Millwall. This was again a loan spell for him. Manager Kenny Jackett mentioned that Kane would be a brilliant striker. He only played half of the season, and he scored seven goals in 14 appearances.
Norwich City (Loan)
In 2012, Kane and the club agreed that Kane would spend a long loan spell at Norwich City. At that time, Norwich was promoted to the Premier League. Norwich gave Kane only three opportunities, and he failed to score. In January, Spurs had fewer options in the forward, so they called Kane as an attacking option.
Leicester City (Loan)
In the same transfer window, Kane was sent to Leicester City, and this was the year when Leicester was about to get a promotion. But the team was eliminated by Watford in the play-off semi-final. In the rest of the season, Kane scored only two goals in 13 appearances.
Tottenham Hotspur
He was finally brought back to Tottenham in the 2014-15 season, and he provided an assist to Eric Dier, which was the winning goal against AEL Limassol. He started his Spurs journey with some brilliant goals. In a group stage match in the Europa League, he scored his first hat trick. After that, Kane became the regular option for the Spurs. That year, he was the PFA Youth Player of the Year.
In the 2015-16 season, Kane was the Premier League’s top goalscorer scoring 25 goals. The next season was another individual record set for Kane as he got another Golden Boot in the Premier League. Spurs were runner-up in that season, and this was the best for Spurs. In 2017, Kane scored six hat tricks and scored 56 goals and became the top goalscorer leaving Messi and Ronaldo behind.
The 2018-19 season was the time when Kane had the opportunity to lift the Champions League trophy, but Spurs lost to Liverpool in the finals. In the 2020-21 season, he got his third Golden Boot, and he was the playmaker of the season. Last month, Kane became the all-time Tottenham top goalscorer. Currently, he is showing interest in a transfer, let’s see how he is going to end up this season.
Final Words
Harry Kane has been trying to prove himself from the beginning of his career. He started his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur, but he had to spend around five years in different Premier League and Championship teams before he was promoted as the first-choice forward.
There were two occasions where Spurs and the England national team had the opportunity to win a trophy, the first one was the 2018-19 Champions League Final, and the second time was the 2020 Euro cup, where England lost to Italy.
Let’s see if he can show his skills and win a major trophy for his club and country. But that doesn’t prove a player’s quality. Who knows, Harry Kane might write his name in Premier League history by beating Alan Shearer and be the all-time top goalscorer.
Thank You.
