Boxing and fighting fans just love fantasy matchups. It provides them with free rein to imagine the wildest boxing scenarios that are far-fetched at best.
Legends from different timelines or areas of the sport pitted against one another, fighting to the end. One such matchup is between boxing’s heavyweight icon Mike Tyson and the Russian MMA beast Fedor Emelianenko.
This fantasy match-up is slowly taking pace, and more and more people are getting on this bandwagon.
However, there are no official statements that can confirm the following matchup. Nonetheless, it does not mean that fans and ex-fighters are not indulging in themselves in this fantasy matchup.
Brendan Schaub On This Much-Awaited Matchup:
Recently, Brendan Schaub, a former MMA fighter turned comedian, gave his hot take on this fantasy matchup. Schaub, being an insider, has presented a more real scenario.
In fact, he made a point to distinguish between a real fight and an exhibition. According to Schaub, this would be just a mere exhibition, as both the fighters have taken their hiatus from their respective sports a while back.
Schaub might be into the idea of two legends butting heads in order to establish dominance, but he feels that an exhibition match is just not the right way.
In a podcast, Schaub was seen saying, “Yeah, but Mike Tyson done like real fights… if they’re like, ‘hey, it’s an exhibition,’ he’s like, ‘what? What’s that? Wait, I can’t try and take his head off? Like, no, no, he’s like, I’m not doing that.”
Fans might discredit Schaub’s perspective. However, every fighting fan would agree that exhibition matches are a thing of the new age of the internet, where fans use the medium to match legends against one another. But, these fighters belong to a different age.
So, if you pay heed to Schaub’s word, then the proper way to motivate these fighters to face each other is by putting something at stake. Otherwise, it can be a big waste of time for everyone.
