The sports world is one of the most unpredictable places out there. Anything can happen at any time. In a similar turn of events, a 25-year-old member of the Serbian national team had to go under the knife after an in-game injury.
Boriša Simanić is one of the integral parts of the Serbian national basketball team. While playing against South Sudan, Simanić got elbowed.
At first, the injury seemed minor. Later on, when the pain dial went up to ten, Simanić had to be transferred to a local medical facility for a checkup.
The whole incident took place while the Serb was guarding South Sudan’s Nuni Omot when, inadvertently, the latter elbowed the man to his right side.
This set off a chain of incidents that left Simanić hospitalized. After the initial prognosis, doctors said that Simanić needed immediate surgery to remove his kidneys.
An Accident
Serbian coach Svetislav Pesic told the media that this was a huge setback for the athlete as well as the Serbian team, as Simanić was a crucial part of their team.
As of now, Simanić is stable on most accounts. But he is not leaving the Philippines anytime soon.
After the incident, Nuni Omot released an official statement saying, “As a sportsman, I firsthand understand the severity of his situation and I am deeply sorry that this happened,” Omot further added, “No player should have to go through that. I pray for Simanić’s recovery and speedy return to the court.”
But some fans are going hard on Omot and even blaming him for what happened to Simanić.
Even though Simanić is officially out of the team for the time being, his teammates are not leaving him. After a stunning victory against Lithuania, the Serbian Team took the opportunity to show their support for Simanić. A brother is always a brother.
