Defending World Champion Argentina faced off against Paraguay for the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying game.
The attending crowd hoped and prayed for Messi to grace the Argentine fields once again and drive the team to the doors of victory. They were not at all wrong in any way whatsoever.
Messi came off the bench in the second half of the match against Paraguay and straight away went to do what he did best.
By the time the match rolled on to the second half of the game, Nicolas Otamendi had already established himself as the first scorer for the team. This enabled the Argentine team to wiggle around or experiment.
The Match That Made History
The experiment definitely paid off. As the game ended, stats showed that Argentina possessed the ball 75% of the total time.
Therefore, Paraguay barely even had the chance to hold the ball. It was also noted that the Paraguay football team only managed to break through Argentina’s defense only once throughout the night.
Meanwhile, Argentina was ruthless in its attacks. The team, under Messi’s guidance, kept hitting the defensive walls of Paraguay. This did not leave any breathing space for Paraguay as they were more concerned about stopping the attacks that Argentina was dishing out.
And then, when Messi entered the field, things went brutal for the Paraguayan front. Messi entered in place of Alvarez in the second half of the match.
Initially, Messi refused to wear the captain’s armband but finally gave in with a warm smile. It was one of the greatest moments in football history. By the end of the match, Argentina vs. Paraguay ended with a 1-0 score.
