The following week’s Winston Salem open is becoming interesting at every step. First, we have just received news that Andy Murray has been given a wildcard entry in the tournament. In the second round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, Murray lost to Hubert Hurkacz.
However, we see organizers can’t continue the tournament without him, and he is now added to the main draw of the U.S. Open.
The Journey Of Murray
Andy Murray is the three-time Grand Slam Champion. But, unfortunately, he had rip surgeries in 2018 and 2019. Due to his health condition, the Brtish Tennis Player has only been able to play a handful of ATP-Tour Level events this year.
Murray first won his Grand Slam tournament in 2012 and entered the 3rd round in Wimbledon. The Tennis star had also played in the 34-year-olds Tokyo Men’s Doubles, where he lost in the quarter-finals.
Due to his positive testing in Covid-19, he also had to miss the Australian Open. He even could not take part in the French Open. It was indeed an unfortunate incident to witness because Muzzcat could not show his full potential due to external obstructions, it seems.
However, it seems like God is in Murray’s favor after all. The unexpected withdrawal of Stan Wawrinka from the U.S. Open due to his left foot surgery has kept a spot open for Andy Murray in the tournament. As a result, both Andy Murray and Dan Evans are entering the game as wildcards now.
Final Thoughts
The U.S. Open will run from 30th August to 12th September, and we hope Murray will show his full potential in the tournament.
Despite being defeated by Hubert Hurkacz, he managed to make a comeback in the Winston Salem Open. We hope he can make the best of this second chance and outshine his competitors.
