The track is heating up at the Kansas Speedway. With the season playoff reaching its zenith, things are looking good for Toyotas. Holding some of the significant positions throughout the race consistently.
But when you compare these performance stats with the victor, Tyler Reddick, there is a sharp disparity.
While drivers like Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot remained unstoppable through and through, Tyler Reddick led the pack for just two laps. This is evoking mixed feelings from the fans.
Fans who tuned in to watch the NASCAR giants tear up the track will unanimously agree that Larson demonstrated exceptional speeds, even clinching a victory in stage one of the playoffs.
But the narrative shifted against Larson in stage two. This was not a piece of good news for fans who were rooting for Larson. While talking about Larson’s performance in the second round, Denny Hamlin used sharp words.
At the same time, Hamlin praised Chase Elliot’s exceptional performance that set him apart from other racers.
The Twist
During a pivotal moment in the race, both Larson and Elliot were engaged in a heated battle for dominance.
As a result, both racers secured a leading spot in the race. But things took a turn for the worse at the turn 2, which led Larson to lose the speed and subsequently drop down multiple positions.
By the time the race reached the 148th lap, Larson was struggling at the 20th position. And Denny Hamlin has some very specific set of criticism for Larson and his team.
Hamlin, in a podcast, said, “I would love to see us kind of racing up front straight up we kinda got off sequence those guys when Cliff made the decision to keep him out that one restart. I’m actually very surprised he fell back as far as he did though I guess once you lose one spot it’s just you lose a ton. but man Chase Elliott was able to make that strategy work he started out and got the lead and held it really to the last couple of laps before the stage and Larson dropped like a rock. So Kyle was really good up front.“
Therefore, Hamlin believes that it took a special set of skills to recover from a tight spot like Elliot managed and Larson failed.
