Juggling the role of a parent and an athlete is never an easy task to master. However, Angelique Kerber is taking up this challenge diligently. Kerber is all set to make her return after a year of being on maternal leave. What do you think inspired this German tennis legend to take up this challenging task? Let us dive deep to answer this question.
This three-time Grand Slam Champion graced the court back in 2022 Wimbledon. Now, after a year of hiatus, this 35-year-old mother is making her come back. And she quoted two role models who inspired her to do this.
Kerber might be making it look easy, but it is not a job for the faint-hearted. In fact, Kerber needed support from fellow German mothers like Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina. The duo has inspired this mother to grace the court once again with her amazing tennising skills.
Two Roles One Woman
In a recent interview, Kerber said, “I will return when the new season starts with the goal of playing Australian Open 2024. This includes the preparatory events in January, maybe United Cup for Germany. Returning to the Slam in Melbourne would be a dream”
This tennis mom also said that she is learning the ropes of juggling roles and will need some time to get the hang of it. She further elaborated, “I didn’t want to train through, but there are days and sometimes weeks that are free so that it doesn’t become too much… For me, the preparation feels four times longer than usual. I have never trained so long and intensively.” Therefore, it is only a matter of time before we will be able to see how this tennis mom handles the roles she is set out to play.
