Rivalries are part and parcel of any sport. What about friendships? How do you sustain a relationship in such a competitive environment? Well, a recent revelation demonstrated something similar. Bubba Wallace had one of the most productive runs this season. However, losing to Ryan Blaney in 2023 is still a sharp wound to heal from. While Bubba Wallace imagined himself on the podium, it was one of his closest friends, and that broke him.
The Bouts Of Depression
Everyone hoped to see Wallace celebrating his victory, but he was seen taking a flight back home to sulk in his own sadness. For several days, Wallace cut off everyone from his life. After he took time to heal, Wallace. But even during those toughest times, Ryan did not leave Wallace’s side. In fact, in a recent video, Wallace was heard saying, “He called me a couple of days later and I was like, man I guess you winning the championship sent me into depression, damn, like congrats, but I didn’t wanna see that.”
Being the bigger man, Blaney quickly pointed Wallace to a 2020 instance where Chase Elliot Triumphed over Blaney. He then went on to assure Bubba on his run, saying, “Man, you did great. Tenth in points, you made a good run in the playoffs.’
However, this is not a one-off incident. In fact, Wallace has repeatedly agreed that he frequently goes through bouts of depression. According to him, “I won that race, got home and sat on the couch looking at a blank TV, like damn, we just won a legend car race, you did something right and had fun and doesn’t matter but the season ends and your best friend wins, doesn’t matter, doesn’t matter when it’s going to hit you.”
