Everybody goes cuckoo sometimes. And this statement rings true even for the most accomplished athletes out there. The recent addition to that list is a 22-year-old forward for the Charlotte Hornets.
Native to the Bahamas, this young player shared a deep inclination towards sports and even wanted to be a professional long jumper. But when he played basketball for the first time at the age of 15 for the first time, there was no looking back.
This 6’11” forward was the 19th draft of the New York Knicks back in 2021. Nicks traded him to his current team, the Hornets. Things went great for a while, up until Jones started acting weirdly.
This weirdness found its way to social media as well and eventually led to several teammates unfollowing him. But what was the odd behavior that did not sit well with the young player’s teammates?
The Slow Descent
NBA fans are currently quite concerned for the Hornet forward, and for the right reasons. Jones has been acting fairly differently on social media.
In a recent Instagram live, fans noticed that the walls behind him were scribbled with crayons. Certainly not a good sign. Many pointed out that this is an obvious marker of Jones losing it slowly.
Subsequently, in a recent episode, Jones randomly compared himself with basketball legends like LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal.
In fact, he even went the mile and voted himself as the G.O.A.T. Naturally, he became the subject of a lot of trolling and bullying over the internet.
Things escalated further when he took to X to call out his teammates. Jones was evidently not happy with his current team and even demanded a trade. The Hornets did not reply or comment.
He even repeatedly failed or refused to show up for team practice, which further cemented his stance on an exit. But is it just a disgruntled athlete who wants a swap, or is it something more than what meets the eye?
