Fighters do not butt heads in Octagons only. In fact, Social media is also a fight ring if you think about it. They are public, you can hit your opponent with words, and they are entertaining. And the current Ferguson and McGregor web clash is a testament to those things. Two of the UFC’s most reputed lightweight fighters are taking each other head-on in a very public manner.
Things have not been good between Tony and McGregor for a while now. Everything started a few months back when McGregor replied to a tweet by Tony Ferguson. The Irishman said that he is not the forgiving kind and has certainly not forgotten what Tony said about him in the past. Subsequently, McGregor also said that he would exact his revenge and would end Tony ‘badly.’ In response to this tweet, Tony Ferguson called McGregor a ‘b!#ch.”
However, El Cucuy did not end his barrage of punches that easily and continued, “Remember When You Used To Work For Me & I Fired Your A** For Not Doing Your Job. When your done signing your legal issues, sign on the dotted line Coward-Champ…-CSO-…@ufc @danawhite #TUFChamp.” This was an open challenge to the Irishman to butt heads in the octagon.
Recent sources suggest that UFC president Dana White has planned a return match for McGregor against Michael Chandler slated for early next year. Yet, the ongoing banter between Tony and McGregor is leading up to a potential fight. Statistically speaking, both fighters are way past their prime.
Tony Ferguson enjoyed a 12-fight winning streak, but as of late, El Cucuy seemed to have lost his magic. Secondly, McGregor has been out of the game for a while. Therefore, with online banter brewing to a certain point, it seems that fans will have a treat waiting for them. Keep following our page for more such sports-related content.
