In a surprising turn of events, the Dallas Mavericks have managed to acquire the restricted ‘free agent’ of the Boston Celtics.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania was the first person to report that the Mavericks have signed Grant Willaims for an exclusive three-team sign-and-trade deal.
Mavericks Get Grant Williams In A 3-Team Sign-And-Trade Deal

“Sources: The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and Boston Celtics are finalizing a three-team trade:
– Mavs: Grant Williams
– Spurs: Reggie Bullock and an unprotected Dallas pick swap in 2030
– Celtics: Multiple second-round picks.”
Charania also took to Twitter to retweet the tweet mentioned above with the words,
“The Mavericks are acquiring Celtics restricted free agent Grant Williams on a four-year, $54 million deal via sign-and-trade, per sources. WME Sports’ Bill Duffy and Erik Kabe completed the new contract for Williams.”
As a part of this deal, Williams will be required to sign a deal spanning four years, and that too for a whopping 53 million dollars, before officially joining the Mavericks.
While the Dallas Mavericks will be sending Reggie Bullock, a pair of second-round draft picks, and a pick swap to the Spurs, the Boston Celtics will get not one, not two, but THREE second-round picks as well.
Charania wasn’t the only one to tweet. Adrian Wojnarowski also tweeted about the same – here’s the tweet.
“Restricted free agent F Grant Williams is finalizing a four-year, $53 million sign-and-trade agreement to land with the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell ESPN.”
He further retweeted his original tweet, like Charania,
“Boston is landing three second-round picks in the deal, including a 2024, 2025 and 2028, sources tell ESPN.”
Grant Willaims was the number 22 pick in the Draft of 2019. In fact, he averaged 4.6 rebounds and 8.1 points while shooting 39.5% on 3-pointers. Also, that’s 45.4% from the field last season.
On the other hand, Reggie Bullock, who is now bound for San Antonio, averaged 3.6 rebounds and 7.2 points while shooting 38.4% on 3-point attempts and 42.5% from the field last season, and that too after spending about 30.2 minutes in every game.
