This is a sad day for all the boxing fanboys out there. Legendary sports writer and HBO boxing commentator Larry Merchant has been hospitalized. As per the current report, he is in the ICU of an undisclosed LA-based hospital.
Multiple sources like TMZ, while reporting about Merchant’s health, harked back on the legend’s illustrious career. Larry was best known for presenting HBO’s Boxing After Dark, WCB or World Champion Boxing, and other pay-per-view boxing events.
Larry Merchant Hospitalized
As per the current report, Larry was taken to the undisclosed LA Hospital at 6 pm Pacific Time on Thursday. Meanwhile, the New York Post claims that the reason behind Larry’s hospitalization is largely unknown. Other unverified sources suggest that it is a heart attack or a stroke.
Larry Merchant was born Larry Kaufman in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb 11, 1931. Later on, he began his career as a columnist for the New York Post and Philadelphia Daily News. However, his broadcasting career began with HBO as a sports analyst in 1978.
