Davis managed to take on Hector Luis Garcia in January. After that, he managed to defeat Ryan Garcia in a non-title grudge match. Therefore, this year has proved to be an amazing year for Davis and his career as a fighter. But things have not always been easy for this champion.
Davis is currently one of the best fighters in the game. According to the current stats, Davis has won at least 93% of his fights, some of the best fighters in the business. One of the most glaring examples is none other than the KingRy fight. Davis has grown to such an extent that he is counted as one of the faces of boxing. But he did not start out as one of the biggest names in boxing.
Tough Upbringing.
Even though Davis is a force to reckon with in the world of boxing, his beginnings were humble and bumpy, to say the least. Born to Darrin Davis and Kenya Brown, his beginnings were not at all in sync with the uber-luxurious lifestyle the fighter currently lives. Gervonta is native to Baltimore, Maryland. It is a locale that is riddled with crime and poverty. This greatly affected young Davis.
In an interview, Davis recalled, “…my mother did drugs… It took my grandma about three years to get us back as we went into different homes—to a foster family, to a group home. It was like we were locked up, too—the only times we could see our family was for about 30 minutes in this little room.” This shows where the fighter’s hunger and desperation come form.
