WTA took a bold step to safeguard their players from hate. With the advent of the internet and social media, it has become easier for people to leave hateful comments. This has turned the world into a chaotic place where everything goes. However, the internet is not all bad, as it lets people stay connected to their role models and be a part of their journey. But it has taken away celebrities’ right to privacy.
This hate is something that can be noticed far and wide in several sporting communities, and tennis is no different. As a result, players like Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff have been very vocal about their stance against online hate. Now, it seems that people have heard their voices, and WTA is taking active steps to stop online hate.
Four Out Of Seven Kingdoms.
In a widespread effort to combat bullying, four of the seven governing bodies of Tennis have come forward. Organizations like ITF, WTA, AELTC, & USTA will be using state-of-the-art technologies to monitor player’s social media to regulate and scan for abusive comments. This application will cover a lot of ground and will span across multiple social accounts.
The system is all set to go live on January 1st, 2024. Currently, the system is in beta testing phase. This will certainly be one of the new chapters in the history of the sport. However, it would be wrong to assume the system’s capability beforehand. Still, people are hopeful that the system will make some difference.
