Nyheim Hines, the running back for the Buffalo Bills, is expected to sit out the entire 2023-24 NFL season after sustaining a serious knee injury.
The NFL Network reported that Hines was sitting stationary on a jet ski when another jet ski rider hit him.
Due to the accident, Hines sustained an ACL injury in his left knee and will need to undergo surgery.
Accordingly, the probability of him playing in the upcoming season is virtually zero. The news comes as a big blow to the Buffalo Bills since the team was planning on using
Nyheim Hines’ pass-catching skills and speed in their offense.
In addition, he was also a primary punt returner and kicker for the team. It is a significant loss for the team since Nyheim Hines is not only a versatile player but also has experience playing in 5 NFL seasons.
Setback for Buffalo Bills: What’s Next?
The Bills procured Hines last year during a midseason swap with the Indianapolis Colts. To stay with the Buffalo Bills during the offseason, Hines revised his contract and even took a pay cut.
Last season, Hines’ role in Buffalo’s offense was next to nothing. In spite of that, he was able to return two kickoffs – one from 96 yards and another from 101 yards – which helped the Bills secure a 35-23 win against New England.
But since Hines is now out for the whole upcoming season, the Buffalo Bills will now need to reconsider their strategy and start looking for players who can fill the spots for kick and punt returners.
Micah Hyde, Khalil Shakir, and Deonte Harty are the three main choices from in-house.
