WTA 2022 was not at all a good time for Jessica Pegula. Pegula did not manage to secure a single win. But, after a year, she is back with a vengeance. Pegula returned with a vengeance in the 2023 WTA Finals.
Pegula managed to secure three back-to-back wins in her singles match on the group stage. As a result, Pegula managed to advance to the semi-finals.
The Good Comeback Story
On day 1, Pegula managed to defeat Elena Rybakina. On The second day, Pegula defeated Aryna Sabalenka.
And finally, on the fifth day, Pegula managed to defeat Maria Sakkari. This shows an amazing comeback story. The player who did not secure a single win last year came back stronger than ever this year.
Cancun is currently facing a windy situation. This is something that can leave some players flustered. However, not Pegula. Pegula is somebody who seems to have adjusted to the overall windy situation.
In fact, this also has people believe that Pegula might just get to be the winner, and the 2023 stat shows that it might be possible. Pegula, as of now in 2023, has secured close to 100 wins. This is an amazing feat that no other female tennis athlete has secured.
In an after-match interview with the media, Pegula stated that she and her doubles partner, Coco Gauff, have decided that they will try and concentrate more on singles games in the upcoming season.
And in the same breath, she also stated that she and Gauff. Moreover, according to Pegula’s statement, ‘We definitely wanna play Olympics next year. Maybe once we get past that, we’ll rethink about it.‘
With the waves of success swelling high. It is a matter of time before we see how Pegula fares this season.
