The BCCI recently revealed the list of players in the IPL 2022 franchise, which means it’s time to get some exciting news, right!!! CSK, MI, DC, and KKR opted to retain four players from their respective teams, and the rest of the team members are open for auctions. The club owners announced on Tuesday, and it looks like there are many surprises in store for us.
The IPL 2022 Mega Auction
There are eight teams in the IPL franchise, and all of them got a salary cap of ₹90 Crores for the mega auction of each team. Therefore, the teams could retain four players from their teams. They could retain a maximum of 3 Indian players, 2 uncapped Indians, and 2 foreign players.

From Delhi Capital to Chennai Super Kings, from Kolkata Knight Riders to Mumbai Indians-every team has retained four players. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained three players each. However, Punjab Kings have retained only two players, which keeps them in an advantage.
It puts Punjab Kings in an advantageous position with ₹72 Crores. Therefore, 27 players are retained so far, among which 4 are uncapped Indians, and 8 are foreign players.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is left with ₹68 Crores, the second-highest amount, while Rajasthan Royals are left with ₹62 Crores. Next on the list is Royal Challengers Bangalore with ₹57 Crores. Finally, Finally, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai are left with ₹48 Crores each.
Delhi Capital is also not far behind in this race. Though they have retained four players, they still have ₹47.50 Crores left in their purse to be used at the mega auction.
New Teams At IPL
BCCI has already confirmed the inclusion of two new teams. The famous American-British private equity firm CVC Capitals is responsible for the Ahmedabad team, while the Indian multinational conglomerate RPSG Group is responsible for the Lucknow team. These two teams will also be a part of the mega auction that will take place soon.
However, retaining the players has already cost the franchises a lump sum amount of money. They spent almost ₹42 Crores to retain the four players they wanted the most. The player who was selected first got a deal of ₹16 Crores, the second player got an agreement of ₹12 Crores, the third one was selected in ₹8 Crores, and finally, the fourth one was chosen in ₹6 Crores.
