I was going through a sports magazine yesterday, and I came across a term known as the highest vertical jump and thought I would look it up on the internet. Athletes across various sports are trying to improve themselves in the vertical jump category, and this is when I thought about what is actually the highest vertical jump that has made it to the record.
The highest vertical jump that was recorded was 47.1 inches, and Josh Imatorbhebhe did it during the 2015 Nike Football Rating championship. After that, Brett Williams is at the current highest from 2019, after he made the Guinness World Record with 65 inches at standing platform jump.
But while going through the process of finding the highest vertical jump, I saw there are various vertical jump performances that deserve to be known. In this article, we are going to put those down.
The Highest Vertical Jump Officially Recorded
There are a lot of people who claim that they made the world record for the highest vertical jump. But the confusion lies because there is no official record of it. There are numerous videos on YouTube that mention people who make a jump above the 50-inch vertical mark. But there is not one athlete in the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, or MLS combined in history who has even come close to reaching this height.
The official record of the highest vertical jump that was done in an organized test environment goes to Josh Imatorbhebhe for his 47.1-inch jump. In a testing environment, there are a few established rules for determining as well as validating the results. So it is important to show proof before they claim that they have jumped 48 inches or 50 inches in their garage.
Noticing the athleticism in the attempt will not require you to be an expert. The power display, the control, and the fluidity are beyond the limits. If you actually check for the measurement and put it in the equation, these are the qualities any coach would want to see in a test.
The jump heights are also amazing and get people excited about the same. But what really matters is the meaning behind those numbers. Based on the performance, it is evident that Josh Imatorbhebhe is on another level.
Is There A World Record For Vertical Jump?
The Guinness World Record for the standing jump is set at 65 inches. And it was done back in 2019 by Brett Williams. In a standing jump, an athlete needs to jump from the ground to a platform that is set at a particular height. Though this jump is a vertical jump, it is actually known as a box jump. But there is no actual record for the highest vertical jump in the Guinness World Record.
These box jumps are tough but give significantly better results than a traditional vertical jump would give. But this does not mean that the record Brett Wiliams made is not any good. But when checked through the parameters, it is understood that the 47.1-inch jump is actually the record for the highest vertical jumps.
Vertical Jump That Deserves To Be Known
I know I have already mentioned that the highest vertical jump is set at 47.1 inches, but there is a lot of information floating around, creating a lot of confusion. So, here we have mentioned a few memorable performances that could not make it to the record but are commendable on their own.
These jumps could have been performed without following the actual techniques and rules. But these are proof that they are amazing in their fields. And it is worth mentioning their name in the article.
Michael Wilson
Michael Wilson is a part of the Harlem Globetrotters. He has made the world record for highest slam dunk. He did it on a 12-foot rim. This is an amazing performance, but again this is also about the standing jump. There is no record of the height for the vertical jump.
His number of vertical jumps at 52 to 55 inches would beat Josh Imatorbhebhe’s score. But again, there is no official record or video of him making this record. So, we can clearly say that he is an amazing athlete. But we cannot consider him as the one holding the record for the highest verticle jump.
Leonel Marshall
Leonel Marshall was a professional volleyball player from Cuba who became popular for his amazing leaps. He is believed to have a vertical jump of 50 inches. When you start searching for something like this, you end up with a lot of videos but no actual evidence.
There is no actual documentation of this jump, and there is no video as well. His all-time best record is set at 47.1 inches. Even though there is no official record of that, it cannot be denied that his athletic ability is elite class. And he has done amazing work in the field of vertical jumps.
Wrapping Up!
No matter who wants to challenge the claim, it is clear that the record for the highest vertical jump goes to Josh Imatorbhebhe for making a record with a height of 47.1 inches in 2015.
We can only consider something as a world record or best of all times, when the record follows the parameters and is executed by following the rules. So whoever is claiming to have the highest jump with 55 or 60 inches needs to get the record straight.
